Love That Shows Up
Scripture: “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18
There’s something comforting about saying the right words. “I’ll pray for you.” “I care about you.” “I love you.” Words matter, they can heal, encourage, and point us toward hope. But John reminds us that Christian love doesn’t stop at what we say. Real love shows up. It moves. It does something.
John writes like a spiritual parent, gently calling us “dear children,” and then challenges us to examine the authenticity of our love. Love that remains only in speech can feel safe, but love expressed through action requires risk, sacrifice, and intentionality. It might look like listening when it would be easier to walk away, giving when it costs us something, forgiving when it hurts, or serving when no one notices. This kind of love reflects the heart of Jesus, who didn’t just tell us He loved us, but proved it with His life.
Today, consider this simple question: What would love look like in action right now? Not in theory. Not someday. But today. In your home, your workplace, your church, or your neighborhood. When love is lived out in truth and action, it becomes a powerful witness to the world and a tangible reminder that God’s love is real, and present through us.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for loving me not just with words, but with Your life. Help me to love others the same way, honestly, generously, and courageously. Show me where my love needs to move from intention to action today. Amen.
