“Boast in the Lord”

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:26–31

"Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise... so that no one may boast before him."
—1 Corinthians 1:26–29 (NIV)

Paul’s letter to the Corinthians begins with a powerful reminder of God’s upside-down kingdom. The believers in Corinth, like many of us, were ordinary people. Not especially powerful or prestigious. Yet God called them. Why? Because God delights in using the unlikely, the underestimated, and the overlooked to accomplish His purposes.

In a culture that prizes wisdom, influence, and status, Paul reminds us that it’s not our qualifications that matter, but our calling. God's grace does not depend on our résumé. It depends on His redeeming love. The cross itself is foolishness to the world, but to us, it is the power of God (v. 18).

God chose what is weak and foolish in the world to reveal His strength and wisdom. This means your limitations don’t disqualify you, they’re often what God uses to show His glory. When we bring nothing but our surrendered hearts, He brings everything we need.

You may feel unqualified, but you are called. You may not have earthly credentials, but you have divine purpose. So don’t boast in your success or despair in your weakness instead, boast in the Lord.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for choosing me, not because I am strong or wise, but because You are. Help me to boast only in You and not in myself. Use my weakness to show Your strength, and remind me daily that I belong to You because of Your grace. Amen.
