He Sees You in the Storm

Mark 6:48–51

“He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake... Immediately he spoke to them and said, ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’ Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down.”— Mark 6:48, 50–51 (NIV)

After feeding the five thousand, Jesus sent His disciples ahead by boat while He went to pray. That night, they found themselves in the middle of a storm, struggling against strong winds. Yet Scripture tells us something remarkable: Jesus saw them. Before they ever cried out for help, His eyes were already on their struggle. Then, in the darkness, He walked toward them on the water. At first, they were terrified, not recognizing His presence. But He spoke words that echo through the centuries to every fearful heart: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” When Jesus stepped into their boat, the winds ceased. His presence brought peace. In the same way, Jesus sees you when the winds of life push hard against you. He moves toward you even when you don’t recognize Him at first. Peace is not found in controlling the storm but in welcoming the One who rules over it.

  • Where are you “straining at the oars” in your life right now?

  • How might Jesus be drawing near to you in ways you haven’t noticed?

  • What fears do you need to surrender so His peace can fill your heart?
