Psalm 36 begins with a stark contrast. David first describes the heart of the wicked: no fear of God, deceitful speech, and a determination to do wrong. But then, in verse 5, he turns his eyes upward and proclaims the vastness of God’s characterlove that stretches beyond the heavens, faithfulness as high as the skies, righteousness as stable as the mountains, and justice as deep as the ocean.

David wants us to see something important: evil is real, sin is destructive, and people may live as if God doesn’t matter. Yet none of that changes who God is. His love and faithfulness remain limitless, His righteousness unshakable, His justice beyond comprehension.

In a world often filled with brokenness, Psalm 36 reminds us to shift our gaze. Instead of being consumed with the darkness of people’s choices, we are invited to marvel at the steadfast character of God. He is our refuge, our fountain of life, the light by which we see (v. 9).

Application

  1. Where have you been overly focused on the “wickedness” around you instead of the faithfulness of God?

  2. His love is not fragile, but eternal. How might you rest in that today?

  3.  As recipients of His steadfast love, how can you show His faithful love to others this week?

Prayer

Lord, in a world filled with sin and brokenness, help me not to lose sight of who You are. Your love is higher than the heavens, Your faithfulness unshakable, Your righteousness immovable, and Your justice unfathomable. Fill me with the life and light that comes from You, and let me reflect Your steadfast love to those around me today. Amen.

Live by faith, be known by love, and serve as a voice of hope for others.
