Turning Our Hearts Back to God
Scripture: Joel 2:12–13
"Even now," declares the Lord, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning."
As we begin the journey toward Easter, the first step is not celebration, it is returning.
Throughout Scripture, whenever God prepares His people for renewal, He first calls them back to Himself. Joel’s words remind us that God is not looking for outward performances of religion. He is inviting something deeper: a heart that is fully His.
Sometimes we drift without even realizing it. Life becomes busy. Faith becomes routine. Prayer becomes quick. Scripture becomes occasional.
Yet God’s invitation is always the same: “Return to me.”
The beautiful truth of the Gospel is that God does not wait with condemnation—He waits with compassion. Joel says He is “gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.”
Lent and the weeks leading to Easter are an opportunity to pause and ask:
-
Where have I drifted from God?
-
What habits have replaced time with Him?
-
What would it look like to return wholeheartedly?
Easter reminds us that Jesus did not come simply to improve our lives. He came to restore our relationship with God completely.
And restoration always begins with returning.
Prayer
