Be Strong and Courageous
Scripture: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
Joshua 1 opens with a moment of transition. Moses, the great leader of Israel, has died, and Joshua is called to lead God’s people into the Promised Land. Imagine the weight of that responsibility! Joshua had seen God’s power firsthand, but now he was stepping into uncharted territory, new leadership, new battles, and new fears.
God’s words to Joshua were not simply a pep talk; they were a promise.
-
“Be strong and courageous.” This wasn’t rooted in Joshua’s ability but in God’s presence.
-
“Do not be afraid.” Fear was natural, but fear did not have to be final.
-
“For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” God’s presence was the unshakable foundation for Joshua’s calling.
The same is true for us today. Whether we’re facing new seasons in life, stepping into leadership, or walking through uncertainty, God’s command is paired with His promise: He is with us. Strength and courage are not mustered up by willpower but are received through trust in His presence.
-
Where do you need courage right now?
-
Are you relying on your own strength, or on God’s presence?
-
How can you remind yourself daily that God is with you wherever you go?
Prayer
Lord, thank You that You are with me in every season of life. When I feel weak, give me Your strength. When fear rises, fill me with Your courage. Teach me to trust Your presence more than my circumstances. Help me walk boldly in faith, knowing You go before me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
