Love Has Come
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16 (NIV)
Love is the heartbeat of Advent. At Christmas, we don’t just celebrate a baby in a manger, we celebrate the breathtaking truth that God moved toward us in love. Advent reminds us that love is not an idea or a feeling, but a Person who came near.
The world often defines love as conditional: I’ll love you if… or I’ll love you when… But the love revealed in Jesus is different. God loved us before we were cleaned up, before we understood, and before we ever reached out to Him. Advent tells the story of a God who did not wait for us to find Him, but instead came looking for us, wrapped in flesh, born in humility, full of grace and truth.
In Jesus, we see love with skin on. Love that enters our mess. Love that sits with the broken. Love that forgives, heals, restores, and ultimately lays itself down on a cross. The manger already points us toward the cross, because this child was born with a purpose, to show us the depth of God’s love and to make a way for us to be reconciled to Him.
As we reflect this week, Advent invites us not only to receive this love, but to live it out. The love of Christ reshapes how we treat our family, our neighbors, our church, and even those who are hard to love. When we slow down and behold God’s love for us, our hearts are softened and our lives become a reflection of His grace.
Reflection Question:
Where do you need to receive God’s love more deeply this Advent season and who might God be calling you to love in a tangible way?
Prayer:
God of love, thank You for sending Your Son into the world, not in power and prestige, but in humility and grace. Help us to receive Your love afresh this Advent season, especially in the places where we feel weary, wounded, or unworthy. Shape our hearts to reflect Your love to others, so that through our words and actions, the world may see Jesus. Prepare our hearts for His coming, and teach us to live as people marked by love. Amen.
