Don't Be That Kid!

It's not your birthday.

But we want to party like it's our birthday!

(Great... now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for the remainder of today)

There's always that one kid at a birthday party that drives me crazy. You know the one... It's the child that has to be in the middle of the celebration and hogs all the fun from the birthday boy or girl!

She's the one that pitches a fit to wear the birthday crown that obviously belongs to the soon-to-be six-year-old princess.

Or...

He's the one that sits right beside the birthday boy and reaches his chocolate-cake-stained fingers into the mix trying to unwrap the birthday gifts that don't belong to him.

And the worst...

She's the one that actually blows out the candles before my little girl even has the time to take in a big gulp of air!

That's it! I can't take it!! In the back of my mind, I'm thinking, "SOMEBODY needs a time out!"

Don't act like you haven't had those thoughts before! And don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about either!!

I wonder how our Heavenly Father feels when he sees how we act during Christmas. It's amazing how we've managed to selfishly make this season about us and what we want.

"For God so loved the world, he gave his son..." John 3:16. That's right, God gave us the baby Jesus. He was born to die for our sins so that we might have an eternal relationship with our Heavenly Father.

So, push pause for a moment with your family, read the Christmas story (Matthew 1:18-24 or Luke 2:1-20), and spend a moment reflecting why we celebrate.

Let's not make this all about us.

Don't be that kid...
